 Strange/bad looking yachts

I know, different people different tastes, but I wanted to see, as we always talk here about beautiful yachts, what the users of this forum find to be strange or let's say bad looking yachts in their opinion?

Here are mine 4:

Amazon Express - I know she is a conversion but I never got used to her combination of colors and I don't really like her superstructure. Not to mention the 'eye' on the bow. - http://community.webshots.com/...PMFHB

Al Menwar - I don't really know why, but I always found this yacht to be quite unattractive. Never saw her interior but I read somewhere that it's nice.

Harmony G - I took a few pictures of here when she was in my town. I think she was built to be a charter yacht but I still find here looking more like a small tourist ship for connecting islands. - http://community.webshots.com/...AKqNQ

Asean Lady - My all-time favorite as the worst exterior design (for now ). -

Looking forward to see your opinion...

 Re: Strange/bad looking yachts (An'Lyn)

in my opinion Forty Love looks really strange:
she is something like a big game yacht.I´m amazed about her asking price from 20 M$.
And Asean Lady is strange too.

Asean Lady is maybe not a beauty. She is however one of the most interesting yachts I have ever seen. I remember seeing a drawing of her several years ago but thought that it was a joke. Obviously it was not.
Anyone who know more about her?

 Re: (mattias)

mattias, my dear, I think we might post here something about the yachts we find "strange/bad looking" rather than "most interesting"? So which are your worst favourites? Mine is actually Asean Lady (well, sounds like a bit boring lack of originality in posting). I'm convinced that passengers enjoy the exotic interior during the first days of a voyage but not during the second week anymore, I have never heard of tourists booking a 2-weeks-stay in Disneyland. Next, more originality please.

I Agree with you weser. Let's please keep this a "strange/bad looking yachts" topic as I'm really interested (and I hope others too) to see what people find to be a strange or bad yacht design....

Well, dear weser.
Lets say that Asean Lady looks a bit strange. I do not feel that I know enough about her, or have seen enough photos, to decide whether or not I like this interesting... sorry strange yacht.

Would have to agree that Al-Menwar is not the prettiest. Can we put Sussoro into this category as well please? I don't really dig Utopia when it comes to it either...

I think Kingdom 5KR is rather bad looking - particularly the funnels.

Although the design is by the grand master Bannenberg and perhaps should be beyond criticism, I still think Kingdom 5KR is looking very out of date today and her style is very 80ish. Hopefully Prince Alwaleed's new yacht will have a more modern and beautiful design.

I vote for HARMONY G also. She is in Zeas Marina all the time and looks even worse than An'Lyn's photos. no more grey hulls please.....she is more a mini cruise ship though.

Re: Strange/bad looking yachts (Andy Lindy)

I really liked Kingdom 5KR when she was Nabila. I thought the grey hull looked wonderful. After Trump bought it and enclosed the aft deck it altered the lines of the boat and I lost interest in it. I think it does look very out of date today.

However, my all-time least favorite boat has to be Al Menwar. There's just something about it that looks "unfinished". It seems as if the lines were drawn with only a ruler; it's far too square and blocky for my taste.

Wedge II
Giant
Al Menwar
Cedar sea ( design and colors)
Kingdom (design and colour)
Ronin
Galant lady (most of them)
Moecca
and not to forget conversion : Turama

But that is very personal

1. Asean Lady... she looks like an oil rig.
2. Al Menwar is too plain and boring, but her interior is rather nice.
3. Wally power, too boxy and strange, way too much ahead of time.

E1S, two of you three points are exactly the same as my opinion, but not the third one, I think Wally Power is a such an agressiv and impressiv ship. I also wouldn't define it as yacht, it is that kind of a big toy for a big boy. The colors and the design in a whole are something new, 10 steps further than Larry Ellison moved with Rising sun. It is futuristic and we have to get used to, but afer a while we will also get some details we admire within this style!

Well...there are a lot of bad looking yachts out there, I am rather picky when it comes to the design and such. Just to give you an idea, I noticed quite a few people seem to drool over Christina O...I think "O" looks like somthing I would see at a yard sale...while I think the Best looking yacht award goes to Pelorus. In this case my vote goes to Asean Lady for the ugliest yacht I have ever seen. But I guess as long as the owners are happy, then thats all that matters.

What do you think how long is the ship? Are you sure that's a yacht?

Yachtspotter, do you maybe have a picture of Lady J or a link to a picture?
Constellation is really ugly, but I think that's a problem with most of the conversions, in fact apart Altair and Bart Roberts I don't find almost any other converted yacht to be nice.
I agree with you Andy about Kingdom 5KR, didn't like her since I first saw her. There are two other yachts I forgot to mention in my first post:
The Highlander - maybe in real life she isn't as bad as it looks (to me) in the pictures: http://community.webshots.com/...laPpT
Thunder - http://community.webshots.com/...qpshy and http://community.webshots.com/...bjTdX.

BTW, thanks to Barh100 for all the photos ...

 Re: (carewser)

Carew, I think that the 103ft Bugari is MoonStar, usually moored in San Remo, Italy. You're right, she's strange...

About Lady J (ex. Quest), I don't find a picture of her again. She was on the charter market during a long time (I find an advertisement in a mag of 1999), with her blue hull and a main tender (apprx 45ft) in aft position. Bulky design...

 Re: (An'Lyn)

An'Lyn, basically Kingdom 5KR is a beautiful yacht, the funnel was a marvelous solution back in the 80's and it was copied by some yacht like DarniceIII, Blue Narwahl, etc. The thing about her is the color, The Prince picked the wrong color, it would've been different if he left the superstructures gleaming white, and only let the hull painted beige. I think she would look much better.

I was looking some older pictures of Kingdom 5KR from when she was Nabila and with here original colors. I still don't find her beautiful but I agree with you regarding the new color as her main problem. She was much nicer when she was Nabila...

Thanks for the link Dust. Lady J definitely has a place in the bad looking yachts category. Is she a conversion or someone wanted a yacht to look like that?

Fathom - I believe that this nominee for the most ugly boat design does not need any further motivation/explanation.
http://www.superyachttimes.com...d/926

The owner apparently expects to get paid Euro 120 000 /week. I think he should have to pay a similar amount as a fine for ruining everybody else view

Al-Menwar is now the Yaakun...for a good while now...

On Yaakun...I too agree she looks plain (unfinished)...she seems void of detail and styling. I saw her off PSC Marina here sometime last year and wondered what was going on with the exterior styling...

I spent a lot of time around Yaakum last year, the more I saw of her the less I liked her. I mean, she's not a conversion, they actually did that on purpose.

Given a refit, I think Yakuun could be made good looking, perhaps like a smaller version of Kingdom 5KR (unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Fathom, where everything above the waterline would have to be redone...)

I suppose I'm splitting hairs here, but Fathom I find odd; while Yaakum I find ugly. Even the name. I would say what it reminds me of, but it might be someone's proper name, and that would be unkind.

I saw Al Menvar (Yaakum) for the first time about 20 years ago in IYCA. I think she was brandnew at that time. I actually didnt believe she was a
private yacht, and I think she was just like todays Carinthia VII, rarely used (maybe because of her looks
All though her new stern looks nice
