Who owns PRIVACY? | 12:11 PM 10/5/2004
|
Hi,Tiger Woods is staying on PRIVACY in Barbados this week, I was curious if it was known who owned it? Tiger is apparently getting married in Barbados today and yahoo news has some pictures of Privacy.

I believe that Tiger is actually the owner. He is said to have purchased a new 155ft Christensen and the yacht in the pictures appears to be just that.

What's so special about Scandinavians? Ask Tiger Woods, he will know. Not only did he marry Elin from Sweden last night but he bought a yacht from boatbuilders of Norwegian descent in Vancouver, WA. According to Bayan sources Tiger and Elin will go on a honeymoon cruise on their new yacht and let's hope the paparazzi will respect their need for Privacy!

It is going to be so easy for the press to get pictures now they know what they are looking for (Privacy). It looks a nice yacht, would love to see inside it. So far PELORUS has my personal vote for best interior, mind you have not really seen inside pictures of that many. Elin seems a nice person, I hope she and Tiger are very happy together.

IrishBliss (and everyone else), you'll be pleased to know that we have the first feature article on the yacht in our November issue, which comes out next week. You'll be able to see it online in a few days!

Liquidity, 2001 155ft Christensen is for sale. Asking price USD 18.5M. I suppose Privacy is not too different from Liquidity and would suggest that a new 155ft Christensen should cost USD 24-25M.Someone having another opinion? I'm not a broker.

I have a picture of the Privacy on dry dock. But it maybe close to impossible to get interior shots unless you know someone who was on it with a camera. My email is jellis502003@yahoo.com And I thought it funny that the shots I took make the Privacy look smaller than it really was.

Christensen revealed to us that she's a $20 million yacht. The story we did about the yacht should be on our Web site within a few days.

Boarding of the yacht | 11:11 AM 10/15/2004
|
I find it interesting that the US allows 95% of port traffic to go uninspected, but chooses to board this yacht. Maybe more political modivation, than security I think. They know who owns the yacht, since its registry data is kept in a file by the Coast Guard, since it was launched from an American yard, and it has not exactly been Private.

Wow ! That's quite a yacht Tiger has. If he visits Northern Ireland he will be sure to visit the Bangor marina. If he does, I hope Irish Bliss gets some pictures for all to share

trllifn, to touch on something you mentioned earlier: It doesn't matter that the yacht was built at a U.S. yard. It also doesn't matter that Tiger Woods is a public figure. I personally doubt the local Coast Guard even knew he was onboard; outside of the insular yachting world, Tiger's ownership of this yacht was still unknown. Even if they did know, however, I'm glad they stopped the yacht--particularly given how so many celebrities seem to get a free pass these days. Bottom line in this case, the Coast Guard was doing its job. Here's an explanation.Every foreign-flagged vessel (Tiger's yacht is not U.S.-flagged), regardless of country of manufacture, is required to file a Notice of Arrival with the U.S. Coast Guard prior to arriving in any U.S. port. Among other things, the information must detail the vessel's security plan--and show that the plan complies with the port's requirements. Any vessel that does not furnish this information can be denied entry. While the regulations were enacted primarily for commercial vessels, they are being applied to private yachts in some instances. It's up to each local Coast Guard office to decide how to proceed. Regardless, it's just one part of an overall tighter enforcement of the Maritime Transportation Safety Act, which is essentially the domestic equivalent of the ISPS code (discussed elsewhere in this forum). The primary goal is to protect ports against terrorist attacks.

I agree that it was in keeping with the USCG policy, but I do want take exception of the statement "I personally doubt the local Coast Guard even knew he was onboard; outside of the insular yachting world, Tiger's ownership of this yacht was still unknown." The yacht had been appearing for over a week in the popular media, due to its prominance and the pun the pop press could make with the name. I personally saw the yacht in video footage on WGN a week before it was boarded.

Brush up your Swedish: http://www.aftonbladet.se/vss/....html150m SEK = 20.4m USD. Wouldn't that be on the low side?

Andy, I'm guessing the statement is referring to the purchase price of the yacht? (Never had the option to take Swedish in school... ) If so, then $20 million isn't too low; that's what Christensen was selling the 155-foot series for. Remember, this isn't a custom yacht. Christensen starts each on spec and typically sells them about halfway (or a bit more) through construction.

I wish! That's the Bitter End Yacht Club, in Virgin Gorda. Our staff gathered there last month for our annual meeting; half of us were trying to ditch our passports so that we could stay.

Diane, thanks for bringing me down to earth again. I've gotten so used to Feadship and Lürssen price tags recently so I didn't even think you could get a megayacht for $20 million...This forum makes you so blasé!

i am glad, but makes you scratch your head & wonder who is running [advising] Christensen. if the insurance co only pays the $1m then Christensen will pay the balance, plus left bruised but still viable.thank you Mr Woods for being the gracious party!

The insurer should be happy I think... If Christensen had lost (which they quite possibly could have) the insurance would be paying 50 million not 1.6. That's a lot of money saved...
