 Re: Refit/New Details (Yacht_Designer)

The Orca project hasn't been delivered yet. The name could very well be the true name of the yacht or, as in the case of other recent deliveries from Lurssen, a project name.

But back to refit news. See this rendering of what Aussie Rules will look like once renamed Floridian (I've also posted this under the Aussie Rules thread):

 Re: Refit/New Details (dbyrne)

thank you Diane, for posting the rendering. frankly, this is about all you could do to add the heliport to the new Floridian. the plan must be to land a big helicopter, if necessary. she needs much more done to offset the extended line... maybe match the angled lines on the above and below deck and add rail caps. i hope in the end she looks as good. it is possible, but more detail will need to be added. the aft area needs to be more sexy (we can't tell from this profile), but i feel it should mirror the original look. i remember reading the designer (mr sam) worked very hard to make the whole look work. i love the original but........

extending the top roof backwards wood be an improvement i think; give a bit more balance.
Still, the majority of ships with a lot facilities like these look like s..t
Le grand bleu for example, viewed from the side is a very unbalanced ship.
Octopus doesnt look that good either 3/4 from behind

 Re: Refit/New Details (tantetruus)

i was only referring to the extension itself (making it part of the look). it has to be a work of art like the rest of the finish. the extending of anything else should not be advised for everything should be clear for the blades. the only way to do her justice would be to remove the deck section, lengthen her & reinstall the aft deck with modifications this is where cake layering and styling matter.

my point is the work the owner envisioned on the Feadship Attessa... very nice and work well done.

Re: Absinthe
the #41 world rating of this yacht may not be correct. after reviewing the new owner's website regarding the charter biz, it states the same LOA of 201ft/61.2m. this changes the overall world rating.

her new refit and helipad modifications are more in keeping of her looks. i like the owner's whole marketing campaign.

however, her rating bumps her to around #70!

 Re: Refit/New Details (Yacht_Designer)

The LOA in our story actually came from the owner; the yacht is finishing a refit that includes a lengthening.

 Re: Refit/New Details (dbyrne)

Before her refit the Absinthe had a length of 61.72m (202.5 ft). If she was lengthed than Diane could be right about her length, but it stays strange to me that the owner tells on his website her old length and it's hard to beleave to me that she is even bigger then Reverie and Floridian (Aussie Rules).

And if I compare the new pictures on the website with my old ones she is almost the same only her funnel is yellow now. But maybe the pictures on the website were taken before her lengthening so they could already advertise....

I also can't find any interior picture, so I am almost sure this pictures are from before her great refit.

 the Revelation

REVELATION, (ex-ROBUR IV and some other names) that old yacht belonging to the late Henry Ford was sold some time ago and her new owner gave her a refit, including a new stern.

Our Juneau, Alaska based spotter has made some shots available that where taken in Alaska last June. You can see them here.
Always nice to see that old lady again...

Re: National Bulk Carriers 257ft Al Diriyah 1960

today i was reviewing the Top 100 list and believe either i missed a yacht or something else happened. we have discussed this yacht in this forum, and i am of course speaking about the National Bulk Carriers 257ft Al Diriyah 1960 (ex Serendipity, Nefertti, Ultima II, Danginn, Massarah). i think the same owner owns Lady Sarya?

also, the Oceanco Stargate & Constellation yachts are listed, however the Al Mirqab yacht is not. i believe the line between state/royal owned yachts is setting a wrong impression of the builds. Britannia should not be listed unless it gets re-commissioned.

White Cloud is scheduled for a lay-in at Port Everglades from 4/30-5/2/2005.
The harbormasters specs have the vessel listed as 221'....was an extension added? I have White Cloud listed as 197'.

Yes she was indeed lengthened with aprox. 6m. On the pictures of yachtspotter you can see the addition behind the tenders.

Below is a link (thanks to techmati) to the photos after the refit/extension of the Amels expedition vessel "Karima" ex-Maupiti. The yacht is now lying in Greece and has a cockpit extension added to its transom for a better sea access....

The Hakvoort SEA EAGLE (ex; QUAESO III, SEA BOWLD) under went a major refit and lengthening at the Hakvoort yard during recent months. On the hakvoort website you can see a picture of the yacht before her refit:
http://www.hakvoort.com/pages/...n.htm

I saw her yesterday at the Seaport Marina in Ijumuiden together with PSYRAX (100ft Van Dam Nordia SY) and BIRGITTA (PJ 120). Pictures of SEA EAGLE are online now.

It appears that Big Eagle has been refitted, her cockpit has been replaced with an extended aft deck. Similar to what was done on the 153ft Feadship Charisma (ex- Enterprise IV).

 Re: Refit/New Details (dbyrne)

now that Floridian has been refitted, we can see that the image proposed is not what the yacht was changed into; i think the refit extension for the heliport works... i don't like to react too fast w/commentary because every change/new yacht deserves breathing space to become their own.

 Re: (Maarten)

Just a comment about the pros and cons of carrying a helicopter. In general, a small landing pad is a waste of time except if the owner has a specific commuting use for his own shore based helicopter. Emergency airlifts are still by hover method (size) However, if the yacht travels continually to remote regions it is a great asset for surveying potential anchorages, transporting guests and security. To manage this properly, a dedicated hanger is needed to maintain the bird in a dry enviorment and should preferably be done without the use of a folding rotor kit.

Being a new member, pelagic, you may not be familiar with the Search facility that is very powerful and will lead you to earlier topics and postings. This forum has been up and running for more than two years by now so there has been a lot of water running under the bridges...

The helicopter subject has indeed been well covered in the topic "Helicopters landing on yachts" - 154 postings to be exact. You certainly have a lot of reading to catch up with.

I think you are referring to the great picture by Paul Walter of the yacht out of the water:

I think it's just some maintenance work after a season cruising through the Eastern Med.

Re: Norfolk Welding 190ft Henriette, ex Danginn, Argo

this yacht is one of those golden oldies that most people would miss looking for something more glamorous. however, she has been around for many years and never really deterioriated. i have always seen her pictured in good condition, especially since becoming a member of the Latis fleet. i have some old b/w pics of her when she was for sale in the late 70's. then she was Argo and i must say a grand fantail yacht not like a Trumphy, but like National Bulk Carriers 257ft Al Diriyah [that keeps getting missed on the PMY Top 100 yachts... i have to add].

I'm not sure. It looks like a merger of 2 styles. Those long curves on the superstructure, at least to me don't quite fit with the rest of the more conservative styling ques.

Maybe they should go for a more "organic" look all over. Probably make it look like a giant Sunseeker.

I like the 60m, though it looks slightly unbalanced with that long foredeck.

Just my opinions.
